Dallas Mavericks dream 2022 trade deadline: 3. Use trade exception on shot creator
The Mavs need another creator to flank Luka Doncic. They inserted Jalen Brunson into the starting five, and it has taken some of the pressure off the 22-year-old superstar. JB can get into the paint and create open looks, which helps Luka get a breather. Dallas needs others than can make plays.
Marc Stein reported (subscription required) the Mavericks are searching for another shot creator ahead of the trade deadline. They cannot trade for a marquee one because the deal would cost them Brunson. Dallas needs to add a third creator not replace JB with an upgrade.
The Mavs created a $10.9 million trade exception when they shipped Josh Richardson to the Celtics for Moses Brown. They are looking to use that to acquire a shot creator before Feb. 10. Dennis Schroder, Kemba Walker, and Cory Joseph could be available and would fit the Mavericks’ needs.
The Dallas Mavericks dream of acquiring another shot creator. Ideally, they add a guard that can space the floor next to Luka Doncic and run the second unit. There are multiple options, and Dallas adds one in their dream scenario, but they are not done there.
