Dallas Mavericks draft target to watch in 2022 March Madness: 3. JD Davison

First-round game: Alabama vs. Notre Dame/Rutgers winner: March 18 at 3:15 p.m. CT on TNT

Davison has immense long-term potential, but the 19-year-old has had a bit of a disappointing freshman season at Alabama. He has started just five of 32 games played, and he averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 25.5 minutes per game. The Crimson Tide have been inconsistent all season, and Davison has followed a similar trajectory.

There is a lot to like out of the 6’3 guard. He is an explosive athlete that can literally jump out of the gym. Davison entered college known for his dunking ability, and fans have seen plenty of rim-rattling jams during his freshman campaign. The 19-year-old is also a strong passer and playmaker, and should be able to translate it to the next level.

Davison could vault up draft boards with a few massive performances during March Madness. He is a fantastic athlete with an intriguing profile. The minutes, consistency, and outside shooting are missing, but he would not be the first player to put it all together when it matters most to vault himself into a late first-round pick.
