Center Dallas Mavericks could target this offseason: 3. JaVale McGee

McGee’s first stint in Dallas did not go as either side planned, but things are different now. The seven-footer won his third NBA championship with the Lakers in 2020 with now Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd on the coaching staff. His playoff experience could be a significant boost in Dallas as the team looks to take that step into title contention.

The 34-year-old unrestricted free agent will have his pick of contending teams to play for this summer. He has been fantastic off the bench for the Suns this season averaging 9.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in 15.8 minutes per game.

McGee is the perfect fit in Dallas. He is going to protect the rim, grab rebounds, and roll to the rim. The 14-year NBA veteran will play his role and do the dirty work necessary to pick up wins. McGee’s team has made the playoffs in six of the last seven years, and he has won three championships in that span with the Suns having the best record in the league this season.

JaVale McGee has scored 1.42 points per possession as a roll man this season, and he sits 12th in the league by forcing opponents to shoot 11.1 percent worse within six feet than their average. He would be an outstanding addition to the Dallas Mavericks this summer, and fans can expect Nico Harrison and company to be interested.
