Best player for Dallas Mavericks to draft at 26th overall: 4. Christian Braun
Braun was the second-leading scorer for the Kansas Jayhawks on their 2022 NCAA championship squad, and the 21-year-old had an outstanding junior year. He averaged 14.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.0 steal, and 0.8 blocks in 34.4 minutes per game while shooting 49.5 percent from the field, 38.6 percent on his threes, and 73.3 percent from the foul line.
The 6’6 wing should be ready for rotation minutes from day one. Braun plays stout defense, spaces the floor, and offers some secondary playmaking ability. He does not have superstar potential, but the former Jayhawk should be a rotation player in the NBA for the next decade-plus.
The combination of his defense and shooting has NBA teams interested. Braun is the 3-and-D wing every team covets, and that could lead to him being selected before the Mavs are on the clock. He has shown some flashes as a passer and playmaker that increases his upside.
The Dallas Mavericks need depth, especially on the wing. Braun would give them an immediate option to use and a player to develop. His shooting ability could quickly help him pass Josh Green in head coach Jason Kidd’s rotation, and Braun would love to jump directly into a winning situation.
