New Dallas Mavericks that could be gone by trade deadline: 2. Tyrell Terry
Terry was the 31st overall pick in the 2020 draft. Yes, he is entering his second season with the Mavericks, but the draft happened on Nov. 18, 2020. The Mavs will have played 14 2021-2022 regular-season games before Terry and Josh Green can celebrate their one-year anniversaries with the organization.
Terry played just 56 minutes in the NBA last season and was limited to 11 appearances. He was supposed to be the star of the Mavericks Las Vegas Summer League team, but he suffered a groin injury that limited him to just two games. The 20-year-old did average 16.0 points and 1.5 steals, but he had an assist to turnover ratio of zero.
The Mavs knew Terry was a project that would take some time to develop when they drafted him, but how long are they willing to wait when they have aspirations of jumping into title contention? Dallas changed their head coach and general manager too. How committed is the new regime to Terry?
The Dallas Mavericks could trade Tyrell Terry in a deal that brings them some help in winning now. If not, the 20-year-old is likely to see the majority of his minutes in the G League with the Texas Legends this season.
