Do the Dallas Mavericks have trade options for JaVale McGee?

There are still three weeks to go before the trade deadline, and things change fast in the NBA, especially in the days before the final whistle. Right now, the market is chilly at best for trading JaVale McGee. Dallas does not want to attach a draft pick just to dump his contract to a rebuilding team. Their best option is including McGee in a larger deal that improves the Mavericks' roster around Luka Doncic.

Dallas has options, despite McGee’s struggles. He is making $5.4 million this season, which is a salary small enough that rebuilding teams will not fret about acquiring. The 34-year-old brings a ton of experience and a veteran presence to the locker room. McGee fits in multiple different situations.

JaVale McGee could be targeted by a contender or sent packing to a rebuilding squad before the Feb. 9 trade deadline. The Dallas Mavericks will be working the phones and trying to find a deal that benefits all the parties involved. They want to win, so the Mavs front office has to find the right deal that makes sense now and moving forward.
