1 Dallas Mavericks trade target at every position to consider

Center: Nerlens Noel, Detroit Pistons
The market for centers appears to be high. Myles Turner’s extension took him off the trade block, and the Spurs are reportedly asking for two first-round picks for Jakob Poeltl. Dallas desperately needs an upgrade at the five, but giving up two firsts for Poeltl would be a massive mistake.
Dallas needs a budget option that can rebound, protect the rim, and anchor their defense. The Mavericks are currently 23rd in defensive rating, and they must be back into the top half if they want to make the playoffs this season.
Dallas Mavericks trade rumors: Do they bring back Nerlens Noel?
The Pistons are looking to dump Nerlens Noel and his $9.2 million salary for this season. He is not part of the team’s rotation as they want to give all the minutes to Isaiah Stewart and Jalen Duren. Getting off his contract would be a win for Detroit.
Noel’s first stint in Dallas did not go as planned, but there is a new coaching staff and plenty of opportunity at the five. Could Noel fill the role that the team created for JaVale McGee this summer? Noel would be asked to play 15 to 25 minutes per game as a rebounder, rim protector, and pick-and-roll partner for Luka Doncic. It seems to be right in his wheelhouse.
