2. Dwight Powell

Mavericks fans have put Powell on the chopping block for years. He does not produce monster numbers, but the 6’10 big man is a hard worker that was the starting center on a team that reached the Western Conference Finals last season. Powell is back starting again and making an impact.

The Mavs want to replace him as the team’s starting center, and they will be searching for an upgrade this offseason, but Dallas has Powell’s Bird Rights. Do not be surprised to see the team bring back the unrestricted free agent as the team’s backup center. Powell is an intelligent guy that is beloved by his teammates. He has outstanding pick-and-roll chemistry with Luka Doncic, and the front office wants Powell to stay.

This one will come down to dollars. What is the market for Powell? Is some team with cap space willing to offer him the full mid-level exception? Are the Dallas Mavericks willing to hand out another three-year $33 million contract as they did in 2019? Would Powell take a discount to stay in Dallas? These questions won’t be answered until this summer, but they will determine if DP stays with the Mavericks.

Fans will be watching the Dwight Powell situation closely, but there is an eight-time All-Star hitting free agency that will steal all the headlines and attention.
