JaVale McGee is still working on his chemistry with Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic

McGee has been an elite roll man throughout his career, and last season in Phoenix, he produced 1.4 points per possession, and he ranked in the 89th percentile league-wide. So far, the Mavs starting center is scoring just 1.09 points per possession to rank in the 41st percentile. It is a small sample, but McGee isn’t getting it done on either end of the floor through the first four games.

Fans have seen the connection between Luka Doncic and McGee is just a bit off in the early going. There have been a few perfect finds like the one below, but they have missed some too with Luka throwing it a bit too high or too far. Doncic even made one of his lobs to McGee in the last game.

There are zero worries here. Luka is one of the best shot creators in the world, and he loves to throw lobs. McGee will start catching and converting those at an elite clip. It is why head coach Jason Kidd wants to pair their minutes. Playing McGee with number 77 hides his lack of shooting better because Doncic is always a threat to lob in the ball for an easy slam.
