Dallas Mavericks trade with rebuilding Utah Jazz: 5. Get Conley
The rebuilding Jazz have little use for a 34-year-old point guard that has $37 million guaranteed on his contract over the next two seasons. Everyone on their roster is available, but Mike Conley figures to be moved if Utah heads into a total rebuild.
The Jazz prioritized draft picks in the Rudy Gobert deal, and they would love to get another first-rounder for Conley.
The Mavericks could win this bidding war by including Tim Hardaway Jr. The 6’5 wing is coming off season-ending foot surgery, but he is a proven scorer and floor spacer. THJ has three years left on his deal, but his salary decreases from $19.6 million to $16.2 in the final year. The Jazz could rebuild his value, and flip him for additional draft capital.
Utah will want a first-round pick for Conley. The Mavericks jump at the chance to fill the biggest current need on their roster by meeting their demands.
Mike Conley is best suited as a 25 to 30-minute per game role, at this point in his career where he can make plays and be a threat off the ball. Dallas offers that, but are the Mavericks willing to give up a first-round pick to acquire the veteran?
