Thing Dallas Mavericks fans should be thankful for in 2022: 3. Last year’s playoff run

After Luka Doncic suffered a calf injury in the regular season finale, fans were fearing the worst for the 2022 postseason. The Utah Jazz had the best record in the NBA during the 2020-21 season, and they represented a stiff challenge in the first round, especially without Luka for at least a few games.

Dallas won in six games as Doncic returned halfway through the series and was lights out. The 23-year-old superstar was unstoppable as he helped the Mavericks win their first playoff series since 2011.

Dallas drew the top-seeded and reigning Western Conference champions in round two, and nobody gave them a chance. It was viewed as a formality that the Suns would be back in the final four, but Luka and the Mavs had other plans.

Dallas won a thrilling seven-game series that was capped by a dominating win in Phoenix. It was just the fifth time in franchise history that the Mavericks reached the conference finals, and it was Doncic’s first deep postseason run.

It was a blast watching the Mavs win two thrilling series as Luka proved he is one of the best players on the planet and a feared playoff opponent for any team in the league. Fans should be thankful they made a deep run last season.
