Takeaway from Dallas Mavericks win over Nuggets: 2. C-Wood takes offense to another level

Christian Wood made an immediate impact after coming off the bench on Friday night. The Nuggets had nobody that could guard the 6’10 forward, and he quickly reeled out 13 points in the first quarter. He kept it going to open the second as Wood had 18 points on six of eight shooting in the first half, including this slam dunk.

Denver had no answer for C-Wood on the offensive end of the floor on Friday night. The 6’10 forward got to his spots and put on an impressive performance as he finished with a season-high 28 points on 11 of 16 shooting from the field, including two 3-pointers. Wood also chipped in eight rebounds as the Mavericks outscored the Nuggets by 21 points in his 26 minutes on the floor.

Christian Wood can play the four or the five, and he gives the Mavericks’ offense a different dimension. He is an outstanding pick-and-roll partner for Luka Doncic along with being able to space the floor and finish inside.

When the 6’10 forward drops 25-plus, the Mavericks are nearly impossible to defeat, and he will remain a key scorer and shot-maker for the team all season long.
