The Dallas Mavericks want to build on last year’s run to the conference finals, and they are taking the first steps during training camp. Luka Doncic is in top shape after a long summer of basketball, and head coach Jason Kidd has the team believing they can reach the NBA Finals.

The NBA is heading around the league for inside access from training camp, and Friday was the Mavericks' turn. The league brought cameras in for the full practice with coach Kidd and Luka mic’d up. It was incredible inside access that fans have never really seen before this season.

What can fans learn from Friday’s session, other than Luka hilariously not knowing JaVale McGee’s name? There was plenty of display, but here are my three biggest takeaways from Mavs training camp live.

The Dallas Mavericks are having fun during training camp

Coach Kidd has the Mavs competing and having fun at training camp. They did some one-on-one drills, fullcourt work, and held a scrimmage during Friday’s session, and the team’s energy jumped out.

The Mavericks are having fun during camp. Fans can see the energy and excitement after rookie Jaden Hardy scored over Maxi Kleber in this one-on-one drill.

Dallas made the conference finals in part because of their team chemistry. The Mavs enjoyed playing together and for each other. It appears coach Kidd is building that same camaraderie this year. The coaching staff was talking and encouraging players to communicate and help each other on the floor.

The Dallas Mavericks are having fun and looking to build something special this season. It is still early, but the level of joy the team was playing with was impressive early in camp.
