Takeaway from Dallas Mavericks preseason opener: 1. Wood showcases his offense

Fans thought Christian Wood would start with JaVale McGee sidelined with an ankle injury, but head coach Jason Kidd opted to keep Dwight Powell in the opening group and bring Wood off the bench. The 6’10 forward did not start the game, but he was the team’s primary option on offense on Wednesday night.

Wood got his jumper going, and he was attacking the basket against the Thunder. Fans can see him getting up for a dunk below.

C-Wood finished with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and one assist in 25 minutes of action. He was 7 of 13 from the field, including making two 3-pointers. Wood’s ability to face up and shoot or drive was on full display. The 6’10 forward can score, and he is still trying to fit in with the Mavericks.

Fans should be cautious about taking anything too drastic from preseason, but Wood was a minus-seven in his 25 minutes of action. Wood put up numbers, but can he contribute to winning? That is the biggest question he needs to answer this season.
