Takeaway from Dallas Mavericks preseason opener: 2. Green ups efficiency

Josh Green drew the start in the backcourt next to Spencer Dinwiddie with Luka Doncic out. The 21-year-old struggled in his two seasons with the Mavs, but he put in a ton of work this summer on his game. Fans saw Green shining during training camp live, and he kept that up in the preseason opener.

Green finished with nine points on four of five shooting, including getting up for this monster alley-oop slam.

More impressively, the 6’5 wing had four assists and nailed a corner 3-pointer. The Mavericks need him to step up and take on more playmaking this season after Jalen Brunson's departure. He even brought the ball up the floor on a few occasions, and he looks to be ahead of Frank Ntilikina in the rotation. Green did have four turnovers, but there were flashes on Wednesday night against the young Thunder.

Josh Green brought his usual defense as he finished with two steals, and he was even seen guarding Josh Giddey full-court in the preseason opener.

It was another impressive performance from Green as he looks to claim a place in the rotation. The 21-year-old is certainly a player to watch this season as he looks to break out.
