Russell Westbrook does not fit on the Dallas Mavericks next to Luka Doncic

The Mavs' first question when acquiring any player should be how does he fit next to Luka? Doncic is the team’s offensive engine, and he is going to be the one running the show. Dallas wants to put shooters, pick and roll partners, and defenders around their 23-year-old superstar.

Westbrook is a career 30.5 percent 3-point shooter, and he has been under 30 percent from long range in four of the last five seasons. Westbrook shot 29.9 percent on his 144 catch-and-shoot 3-pointers last season, and he is not a strong shooter no matter the stat.

The Lakers wanted Westbrook to set some screens and work as a roll man some last season, but it did not happen. He does not even qualify when looking up roll men on NBA Stats meaning he had fewer than 10 possessions last season.

The 6’3 guard was also one of the worst defenders in the NBA last season. He rated 224th in FiveThirtyEight’s defensive RAPTOR of 250 qualified players.

Russell Westbrook does not fit playing next to Luka Doncic, and the nine-time All-Star does not seem interested in taking on a smaller role. He wants to be a star, but will that change after a buyout?
