Ranking Dallas Mavericks roster from most to least likely to stay: Pieces they will need to be title contenders

If any team calls up the Mavs and is offering an All-Star player, Dallas will listen even if the offer includes one of these three players. They want a second star around Luka Doncic, and the front office knows they will eventually have to pay a hefty price to get one.

The problem with giving up one of the three players in this category is the Mavericks will eventually need to acquire a similar type of player to contend for a championship.

12. Dorian Finney-Smith

11. Reggie Bullock

The Mavs need strong 3-and-D wings around Luka Doncic. Ones that can defend on the perimeter, space the floor, and knock down shots in the playoffs. Finney-Smith and Bullock both proved capable during the team’s run to the Western Conference Finals.

The front office wants to add another 3-and-D wing with their mid-level exception this summer. They see the value in this type of player, so trading Doe-Doe or Bullock would force the Mavericks to search for another option that can fill their role.

10. Jalen Brunson

The Mavs need another capable ball-handler, playmaker, and scorer in the backcourt next to Luka Doncic. Brunson is an unrestricted free agent this summer, and the Mavericks plan to do whatever is necessary to bring him back. The 6’1 guard fits next to Doncic, and they bring the best out of each other.
