Loser from Dallas Mavericks 2022 preseason: Davis Bertans

What Bertans provides is no mystery at this point in his career. He is an elite 3-point shooter that struggles on the defensive end. His gravity can be beneficial when Luka Doncic is on the floor as it gives defenders another difficult decision to make. Do they leave Bertans open to stop the Mavs superstar from scoring an easy bucket or just let Luka waltz in for two easy points?

Bertans did not participate in training camp because of a right knee injury. He has swelling, and nobody knows when the 6’10 forward will be available. Bertans talked about the injury, how it started, and what to expect moving forward with Mavs.com. In short, nobody knows, and it is just a waiting game for the swelling to go down and the forward to get back on the court.

Bertans was going to battle for minutes during camp, but he will start the season on the sidelines, and it could be weeks before he plays in an NBA game. The 29-year-old did not get a training camp, so he will need to ramp up before he gets going. Expect Bertans to be outside the team’s rotation when he gets healthy, but the 6’10 forward’s shooting will give him opportunities throughout the 82-game regular season.
