Pass or pursue Dallas Mavericks hypothetical trade: 2. Get Gordon
Eric Gordon has been the subject of trade rumors for years. The Rockets are still rebuilding and the veteran could certainly help a contender. Will this finally be the year he gets moved? Bleacher Report offered this hypothetical trade.
Gordon’s defense and ability to stay healthy would be significant concerns, but he offers some scoring and shot-creation ability the Mavs desperately need. The 6’3 wing can space the floor and get downhill to attack the rim.
Having him as a secondary creator on the floor would be massive for Dallas. He is not a traditional playmaker, but Gordon can create just enough for himself to diversify the Mavericks' attack.
Josh Green’s improvements in year three have been impressive, but the Dallas Mavericks want to win right now. The 22-year-old was played off the floor last postseason, and he is still not a high-volume 3-point shooter. Eric Gordon would give Dallas a significant offense boost, and this deal lets them clear Davis Bertans' contract off their books.
The Mavs could look bad if Green continues to improve in Houston, but Gordon could help Dallas win a playoff series this year. With Luka Doncic on the roster and playing like the MVP, the Mavericks should be looking to maximize their chances of winning right now.
