Pass or pursue Dallas Mavericks hypothetical trade: 3. Acquire Duncan

The Mavericks have been linked to Duncan Robinson for a few years now. The 28-year-old sharpshooter has fallen out of favor in Miami, and the Heat will look to move on before February’s deadline, so here is the trade Bleacher Report proposed.

This is a swap of sharpshooters on undesirable contracts. Robinson likely has three years and $57.4 million left on his deal after this season, assuming he opts into his player option for the 2025-2026 season. Is getting a small upgrade worth taking on two extra years of salary?

How much would Robinson play in Dallas? Head coach Jason Kidd has Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock starting on the wings with Tim Hardaway Jr. and Josh Green backing up. Robinson would struggle to crack the rotation, especially in the playoffs when teams would exploit his below-average defense.

Verdict: Pass

The cost is minimal, but Duncan Robinson does not move the needle for the Dallas Mavericks. There is zero sense in taking on a longer term contract for a player that does not improve their chances of winning a championship.

Dallas wants shooters around Luka Doncic, but Robinson is a one-dimensional player that struggles on the defensive end. There is no sense in adding him to a roster that needs ball-handlers and playmakers.
