Trade to make Dallas Mavericks title contenders: 3. Gobert comes to Dallas
The Jazz need to win in the playoffs or significant changes could be on the horizon this offseason. Stars Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell don't always get along, and they have never advanced beyond the second round of the playoffs in their soon-to-be sixth straight appearance.
If the Jazz make an early exit, they will be at the top of the list of teams to watch this offseason. Will they trade Gobert, Mitchell, or both? If they decide to shop the three-time Defensive Player of the Year, the Mavs are rumored to be interested and expected to be aggressive in their pursuit. Here is a hypothetical deal that could bring Gobert to Dallas.
This trade assumes Utah is entering a rebuild after moving both Gobert and Mitchell. Would two first round picks be enough to land him? The 29-year-old has four years left on his deal and over $169 million as part of a max extension he agreed to in 2021. Does that money limit his market?
Giving Luka Doncic one of the best screeners and rim protectors in the game is certainly worth two first-round picks. The Dallas Mavericks will be able to trade 2027 and 2029 this summer. Their 2025 first-rounder is on the table if they remove the protection from their 2023 first traded to New York in the original Kristaps Porzingis deal.
Can the Dallas Mavericks land Rudy Gobert? If so, they will certainly be title contenders next season.
