Are the Dallas Mavericks too limited around Luka Doncic?

The Dallas Mavericks desperately need another ball-handler and playmaker

From the moment Jalen Brunson left for New York, I have been writing that the Mavs need to add another playmaker. Goran Dragic wanted to come to Dallas for the minimum, but the team did not see him as a fit because of his defense. They instead thought trading for Christian Wood and signing JaVale McGee would be enough. The Mavs thought someone on their roster would fill that third ball-handler void, but nobody is suited for that role.

General manager Nico Harrison should be working the phones to find a trade. The Mavs started last season with just Luka Doncic and Jalen Brunson before acquiring Spencer Dinwiddie at the deadline. Dallas should be looking to repeat that blueprint. Find an undervalued option at the deadline that can handle the ball and make plays.

No current Maverick is stepping up and limiting Luka Doncic’s workload. They just do not have the option on the roster. There is no player capable of filling that role, so Dallas needs to look outside their locker room to fill the void.

Next. 5 trades Mavs should explore right now. dark

Will the Dallas Mavericks trade for another ball-handler? Do they improve the talent around Luka Doncic during the season or wait until the summer and try to acquire a second-star player? Stay tuned because it will be fascinating to watch how their brain trusts attempts to make the roster around number 77 better.
