Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd must try playing his next 2 best offensive options next to Luka Doncic
The Mavs only have two playmakers on their roster, and they want them both on the floor together as much as possible because Spencer Dinwiddie lightens the load on Doncic some. Durant and Kuzma both disrespected their former teammate, who is averaging 18.4 points and 4.5 assists per game on 48.1 percent shooting from the field.
Aside from Dinwiddie, the only two non-catch-and-shoot options on the roster are Tim Hardaway Jr. and Christian Wood. THJ is averaging just 23.4 minutes per game thus far, and he is still working his way back from last season’s foot injury that ended his campaign in January.
Wood is still earning the trust of the coaching staff, but he should be the team’s second-leading scorer. The 6’10 big man can get buckets at all three levels and offers a unique skill set.
Head coach Jason Kidd has not explored using Doncic, Dinwiddie, and Wood on the floor at the same time yet this season. The trio has played a total of 29 minutes on the floor together through the first 11 games. There are defensive concerns about the unit, but it would be a way to lighten Luka’s workload and keep him fresher late in games, especially if they can hold their own defensively.
