Meet Dallas Mavericks Las Vegas Summer League roster: Miye Oni- F

Oni was a second-round pick back in 2019 that the Utah Jazz bought for cash. The 6’5 wing played three years of college basketball at Yale where he constantly improved and flashed an intriguing and versatile skill set.

He played most of his time in the G League as a rookie before earning a bench role as the Jazz had the best record in the NBA in 2021. Oni even saw minutes in eight of Utah’s 11 postseason games. He fell out of the rotation last season before being traded to the Thunder in January only to be waived three days later.

The 24-year-old has a lot to prove in Vegas. He wants to show teams that he can be a consistent contributor on a winning team. Oni has never averaged more than 9.6 minutes per game, but he was skilled enough to be on an NBA roster. The 6’5 wing was a valuable piece of Utah’s bench, even if it was difficult to secure consistent minutes.

Oni will do some ball-handling and playmaking in Vegas. His versatile skill set will let him guard multiple positions, rebound, make plays, and space the floor. Expect him to start and play significant minutes as one of the most experienced players in the summer league.
