Key to Dallas Mavericks playoff success: 4. Role players shot-making
Teams are going to sell out to stop Luka Doncic in the postseason with the specific intent of keeping the Mavs superstar from creating easy buckets in the paint. Number 77 will draw plenty of double teams, and the opposition will pack the lane to try to slow him down.
The results will be plenty of open 3-pointers for the Mavericks, but will they knock them down? Dorian Finney-Smith, Reggie Bullock, Spencer Dinwiddie, Jalen Brunson, and Maxi Kleber are all going to need to hit their wide-open shots at a high clip for Dallas to advance.
Having Dinwiddie, Brunson, and Doe-Doe on the floor to attack closeouts is important for the Mavericks. Bullock has a lightning-quick release that should allow him to get up plenty of open looks. Kleber is the question mark. Will he shoot with confidence and sink enough to stay on the floor? If not, do the Mavericks go small with guard and wings only around Luka?
Doncic is going to put massive numbers in the postseason. He has proven it for two straight years, but what his supporting cast produces will be the difference between the Dallas Mavericks going on a run and making their third consecutive first-round exit.
