Glaring hole in Dallas Mavericks roster heading into offseason: 1. Second star

The Mavs were the only team in the conference finals this season with just one All-Star on their roster. Superteams may be a thing of the past, but talent matters. The Warriors took out Dallas in the conference finals in part because they were the deeper and more talented team.

Luka Doncic is likely the only player on the Mavericks' current roster that will ever be an All-Star. Jalen Brunson has the best chance of getting there. He is an outstanding player, but will he ever be one of the six best guards in the league? It is unlikely.

Marc Stein reported (subscription required) that the team is searching for a second star and plans on pursuing one at the first opportunity. Rumors are already starting to circulate on who that could be, but the Mavericks need another top-end talent to become true title contenders.

The Dallas Mavericks were in the conference finals, and Luka Doncic is only getting better from here. Expect to see Dallas back in short order, but their 23-year-old superstar needs more help if they are going to win it all. Stay tuned to see if the Mavs front office can acquire it this offseason.
