Free-agent to fill Dallas Mavericks final roster spot: 5. Facundo Campazzo

The Mavs missed out on Goran Dragic as he decided to join the Chicago Bulls, but they could fill their final roster spot with another former teammate of Luka Doncic. Campazzo played two years in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets, and the unrestricted free agent has made it clear that he wants to remain in the league.

The 5’10 point guard can handle the ball, make plays, and create steals. Last season, he averaged 5.1 points, 3.4 assists, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.0 steal in 18.2 minutes per game. His 3-point shooting has been streaky, but he produced a 1.0 WAR last season, according to FiveThirtyEight.

Campazzo would slot in as the Mavericks' third point guard and give them another capable playmaker. Dallas had their most success last season with two ball-handlers on the floor. That will be difficult to accomplish with just Spencer Dinwiddie backing up Luka. Campazzo would give Dallas and head coach Jason Kidd another capable option and one with familiarity playing off number 77.

Everyone is waiting for the Kevin Durant trade to happen before there will be a flurry of activity by teams to round out their rosters. Facundo Campazzo will be searching for a backup point guard gig, but choosing the Mavericks gives him a chance to reunite with Luka and play for a contending team, even if his playing time is muted.
