Free agent Dallas Mavericks should target after Christian Wood trade: 1. Isaiah Hartenstein

The Mavs traded for a center, but Wood is not going to solve their issues in protecting the rim. The 6’10 big man can average over one block per game, but he is by no means a deterrent around the basket. Dallas still needs to add a big man that can protect the rim.

Hartenstein averaged 8.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.1 blocks in 17.9 minutes per game last season for the LA Clippers. The seven-footer shot 62.6 percent from the field and made 46.7 percent of his 30 3-point attempts. The opposition also shot 10.3 percent worse from within six feet of the basket with Hartenstein defending.

It will be interesting to see what type of deal the 24-year-old lands in free agency. He ran some point center down the stretch and averaged over three assists per game over his final 30 contests.

Hartenstein has a versatile game that would be intriguing in Dallas playing off Luka Doncic. His developing 3-point shot coupled with the ability to make plays could unlock some new wrinkles for the Mavericks.

Next. Trade grade: Mavs acquire Christian Wood. dark

Fans should expect GM Nico Harrison to act fast in free agency. He will lock in on his targets and move to sign them quickly. The Dallas Mavericks are not done upgrading their roster, so stay tuned for all the latest.
