Free agent Dallas Mavericks should target after Christian Wood trade: 4. Goran Dragic

The Mavs rumored interest in Dragic goes back over a year. Everyone expected the 6’3 guard to be a free agent last summer, but the Heat picked up his $19-plus million player option, so they could trade him to Toronto to acquire Kyle Lowry. Dragic wanted to come to Dallas, but the Raptors waited for a trade and finally found one at the deadline shipping the 36-year-old to San Antonio.

By the time Dragic finally became a free agent, the Mavericks had traded for Spencer Dinwiddie, and they did not have room to give the Dragon significant minutes. He opted to sign with Brooklyn where he shot 56.3 percent in the playoffs.

Marc Stein dropped the rumor (https://twitter.com/TheSteinLine/status/1537796479397638145) that Dallas is looking at adding Dragic again this summer. The 6’3 guard has a close relationship with superstar Luka Doncic and is likely willing to come to Dallas for the veteran minimum. Dragic is a capable ball-handler and scorer that is best suited in a bench role at this point in his career. He would provide leadership and a veteran presence in the locker room too.

Goran Dragic wants to play with Doncic in the NBA. Will the Dallas Mavericks grant him that wish this summer? If so, he could be an impactful signing at the veteran minimum.
