The Dallas Mavericks made a run to the Western Conference Finals, but their need for a starting center was on display throughout the postseason. Dwight Powell started every game with Maxi Kleber playing the lion’s share of the minutes. Kleber’s ability to stretch the floor and knock down jumpers helped the Mavs win its first two playoff series since 2011, but he was a bit overtaxed in that role.

General manager and president of basketball operations Nico Harrison wasted zero time in finding his team an upgrade as the Mavericks traded four players that were outside of their playoff rotation and the 26th overall pick in the 2022 draft for Christian Wood. The 6’10 big man solves the Mavs rebounding woes and gives them a talented big man that should play his best basketball next to Luka.

Adding Christian Wood fills one of the Mavericks' holes, but they still have needs entering the offseason. Trading four players for one opened up roster space for Dallas to add more pieces, but who should they target in free agency?

Priority number one is re-signing Jalen Brunson. The 6’1 guard earned a hefty raise after his breakout fourth NBA season where he became the team’s second-leading scorer. Dallas is over the luxury tax line, which leaves them limited funds to improve their roster, but they can sign Brunson to any contract up to the max because the Mavericks have his Bird Rights.

After re-signing JB, Dallas will be looking for upgrades. They will have the taxpayer mid-level exception and minimum contracts to hand out in free agency, but who should the Mavericks front office target?
