Free agent point guard Dallas Mavericks could still sign: 1. Dennis Schroder
Schroder is the best point guard left on the open market, and the Mavs brass has gotten an up-close look at him during EuroBasket 2022. They were on hand for Dirk Nowitzki’s jersey retirement, and to watch superstar Luka Doncic play for Slovenia. Nico Harrison and Michael Finley watched two of Germany’s games closely, and Schroder was the reason.
The 6’3 guard finished second in the Sixth Man of the Year voting in 2020 as he averaged 18.9 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.6 rebounds in 30.8 minutes per game as the Thunder surprisingly made the playoffs. Schroder is a proven scorer and playmaker that could take his game to another level playing off Luka Doncic.
The 28-year-old has the speed and quickness to attack the rim, and he can keep the defense honest with his outside shooting. Doncic could draw the defense and kick to Schroder, who could attack as they are scrambling to get back on their assignments. Schroder and Dinwiddie playing together gives Dallas two speedy guards that could get downhill.
The Dallas Mavericks should sign Dennis Schroder to round out their roster because he is the best playmaker available. Will they? If Schroder continues to dominate EuroBasket, some team will gladly sign him. Stay tuned to see if it is the Mavs.
