Former Dallas Mavericks player only diehard fans will know: 2. Kevin Ollie

The former UConn coach and now head coach of Overtime Elite was born in Dallas. He played for UConn in the early 1990s before being their head coach from 2012 to 2018. Ollie led the Huskies to a national championship in 2014, and he is now looking to build Overtime Elite into an avenue for teenage players to get paid and develop before entering the NBA Draft.

Ollie was a journeyman in the NBA as he played for 12 different teams from 1997 to 2010. The 6’4 guard played his first career NBA game with the Mavericks in 1997. It was one of 16 before being waived by Dallas in December of 1997. He moved on to the Orlando Magic, which jumped started his NBA career.

Kevin Ollie will always be more known for his coaching accomplishments, but the 6’4 guard did play 13 years in the league. That is no easy feat. Ollie was never an All-Star and rarely cracked the starting five, but he helped the Sixers reach the NBA Finals in 2001.

The Dallas Mavericks won just 20 games during Kevin Ollie’s lone season with the team. They were arguably the worst team in the NBA in the 1990s, and Ollie was a small piece of that before moving on.
