The Dallas Mavericks are less than a month away from training camp, but FIBA play across the globe has allowed fans to watch basketball. They were treated to two sets of World Cup qualifiers this summer, but things are not done with EuroBasket on the horizon.
EuroBasket was held every two years from 1947 to 2017 when FIBA shifted it to a four-year cycle. The tournament could not take place in 2021 after the pandemic pushed back the Olympics, so this year will be the first one since 2017 when Luka Doncic and Slovenia brought home the gold medal.
The Mavericks superstar is back leading his country at EuroBasket 2022, but that is far from the only reason to watch. Fans will be treated for several reasons, including Dirk Nowitzki receiving a massive honor at the event.
Why Dallas Mavericks fans should watch EuroBasket 2022
The Mavs have two active players in the event. Luka is representing Slovenia in the toughest group of the tournament. Doncic and company are among the favorites, but the field is deep. Mavericks two-way wing Tyler Dorsey is representing Greece, who are also among the favorites with Giannis Antetokounmpo leading their charge. Dorsey played well in World Cup qualifying and will be a key scorer for his country if they want to medal.
Dirk is serving as an ambassador for the event with Germany hosting games in both the group and knockout stages. Expect Nowitzki to be on-hand for several contests, including watching plenty of Luka Doncic.
Dallas Mavericks fans will have multiple things to follow, but here are the three biggest reasons they should watch EuroBasket 2022.
