Dallas Mavericks depth chart at small forward
The Mavs need to add an option on the wing as well. Dorian Finney-Smith could start at the three or four, but Dallas needs depth to make another deep playoff run.
Starter: Dorian Finney-Smith
Doe-Doe is arguably the team’s second-most important player as he has transformed into a defensive stopper and one of the best 3-and-D options in the NBA. Finney-Smith may not get that kind of credit, but fans know how valuable he is to the Mavericks.
Backup: Josh Green
This is a make-or-break season for Green. The 6’5 wing had a more consistent role in his second NBA season, but he struggled with his jumper, especially in the playoffs. The Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns refused to guard him, and Green often failed to make them pay. Dallas wants to contend for a championship, so JG must prove he can provide enough on the offensive end to stay on the floor.
Third-string: Theo Pinson
The Mavs re-signed Pinson to a one-year deal on July 1. He will be the team’s 15th man and bring the energy from the bench. Dallas believes he is a key piece of their locker room, and bringing him back became more important after Jalen Brunson left in free agency and Boban Marjanovic was traded to Houston.
