Dallas Mavericks depth chart at shooting guard

The Mavericks are flush with options, but Reggie Bullock’s defense gives him the inside track on the starting role.

Starter: Reggie Bullock

Bullock struggled with his jumper last season until mid-January. As his playing time ticked up, so did his production. The Mavericks reached the conference finals with defense, and Bullock was a key piece defending the opposition’s top ball-handler. With Kidd’s emphasis on that end of the floor, expect the 6’6 wing to see plenty of minutes next season.

Backup: Tim Hardaway Jr.

Hardaway Jr. missed the Mavericks' playoff run after suffering a foot fracture in late January that required surgery. He is already back in the gym working out and figures to be 100 percent for training camp.

The Mavericks will need THJ’s scoring and shot-making after Brunson’s departure. He is likely best suited as a microwave scorer off the bench that will close games when he gets hot.

Third-string: Frank Ntilikina

When healthy, Ntilikina was a part of the team’s playoff rotation. The 6’4 wing is a plus perimeter defender that must improve his jumper to see consistent minutes this season.

Rookie: Jaden Hardy

Hardy is a bucket that figures to be brought along slowly. The 19-year-old will look to prove he is NBA-ready during summer league, but after an inefficient scoring season with the G League Ignite, Hardy figures destined to see most of his playing time with the Legends.
