Dallas Mavericks depth chart at point guard
The Mavs rotation will be fluid, but they need another option here. Dallas played their best with two playmakers on the floor in the playoffs, but the departure of Jalen Brunson puts a damper on their options in doing so.
Starter: Luka Doncic
Luka is a walking bucket that is staying in shape as he leads the Slovenian National Team in World Cup Qualifying. The 23-year-old superstar figures to enter the regular season as the favorite to win MVP, and he will push the Mavericks to the playoffs.
Backup: Spencer Dinwiddie
Dinwiddie will be competing for the starting backcourt spot next to Doncic during training camp. No matter the result, the 6’5 guard figures to be the team’s number two playmaker heading into the season. Dinwiddie played outstanding since arriving in Dallas, and the team believes that the offseason should allow him to get healthier.
Do not be surprised to see him win a starting role and be the team’s second-leading scorer. Spencer Dinwiddie is a bucket, and he will be 20-plus months removed from his ACL injury when training camp opens.
Goran Dragic will be the team’s third point guard if he joins the Dallas Mavericks this summer. Expect him to play 20-25 minutes per game during the regular season as the team saves the veteran’s legs for the playoffs.
