3. Will Dallas Mavericks add another 3-and-D wing?

Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock were forced to carry a massive workload in the postseason. Each averaged over 38 minutes per game and ran more than 49 miles as the Mavs reached the Western Conference Finals. Head coach Jason Kidd could not afford to take out his best perimeter defenders because they did not have anyone else that could do the job.

The Mavericks are targeting another 3-and-D wing with their mid-level exception. Every team is looking for multiple options, so they usually do not come cheap. Dallas only has the taxpayer mid-level to offer this year. It took the full mid-level exception to sign Bullock last offseason, and the Mavs may be forced to trade for another wing if they strike out in free agency.

Dallas is rumored to be interested in Gary Payton II. Otto Porter Jr., Bruce Brown, Wesley Matthews, Cody Martin, and Malik Monk are all available and could offer the Mavericks help on the wings. Some of those players are not exactly 3-and-D options, but Dallas would try to fit them into that role if they can acquire them.

The Mavs could look to fill this spot with internal growth from Josh Green or Frank Ntilikina too. Both have the defense down, but they need to improve their offensive game.
