Bargain bin free-agent center Dallas Mavericks should target: 4. Mike Muscala
The Mavericks had their most success this postseason playing small with Luka Doncic flanked by four shooters. It is why Maxi Kleber played the majority of the minutes at the five. Going small hurt Dallas in rebounding and rim protection, but it made their offense impossible to stop.
Muscala is a 6’10 big man that is a career 37.7 percent 3-point shooter and is coming off a season where he made 42.9 percent from long range. The 30-year-old would come off the bench, but Musky gives Dallas another plus shooter on a veteran minimum contract.
Muscala averaged 8.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks in 13.8 minutes per game last season for the rebuilding Thunder, which translates to 20.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per-36 minutes. He also scored 1.48 points per possession as a roll man in the pick and roll, which rated in the top five percent in the NBA.
The Dallas Mavericks would love to add a deadly shooter and pick and roll partner for Luka Doncic that they can insert off the bench when their offense gets stagnate. Muscala is not known for his defense, but he would give head coach Jason Kidd another option off the bench to turn to next season on a veteran minimum deal.
