Dallas Mavericks acquiring Kyrie Irving could upset Luka Doncic

Everything the Mavs do should be viewed through the lens of Luka. The 23-year-old superstar is a generational talent that is on his way to being an all-time great. Keeping him in Dallas for his entire career like Dirk Nowitzki will not be easy, and it will take some catering to his wants and needs.

Playing with Kyrie Irving has not exactly been easy for his co-stars. Things did not end well in Cleveland with LeBron James. He asked out of Boston after two seasons. Irving went to Brooklyn to play his friend Kevin Durant, and now could be on his way out after three years, despite KD being locked in long-term.

Say the Mavericks get Kyrie and in two years it is not working out. How does that impact Luka? Is ready to leave Dallas because of the dysfunction around the team? Acquiring Irving does not guarantee he stays and remains committed to the franchise. The 6’2 guard could ask out at any moment, and fans know superstars get their way in trade demands.

What Luka Doncic wants should and will matter here. If Kyrie Irving becomes available, does number 77 want to team up with the seven-time All-Star? The Dallas Mavericks must be careful of the long-term ramifications if Doncic is in favor on adding Kyrie.
