The Dallas Mavericks had an all too familiar offseason as they entered with significant cap space and dreams of adding a star player, but ended up filling gaps with second-tier options. Dallas is hungry to build a title contender around Luka Doncic. Plugging holes is important, but the Mavs needed to do more to accomplish that goal.

Their roster improved this offseason. Reggie Bullock and Sterling Brown are upgrades on the wing that should provide shooting and defense. The Mavericks also acquired a young talented big man in Moses Brown and a defense-first guard in Frank Ntilikina. Those pieces coupled with re-signing Tim Hardaway Jr. and Boban Marjanovic made up the team’s offseason roster moves.

Another season is here as training camp is set to begin on Sept. 28. The players are arriving in Dallas and are ready to get to work as the Mavs want to make a deep playoff in 2022. Here are their five biggest questions heading into the season.

The focus here is things that fans could learn during training camp and the regular season. The Mavs lack of secondary playmaking and ball-handling will not get exploited significantly until the playoffs. They still have plenty of other questions to answer in the early going.

Can superstar Luka Doncic take another step forward this season? He is already a superstar and top-five player in the NBA, but the 22-year-old figures to have a few new tricks up his sleeve. Where did he improve, and how much does it lift his team?
