Dallas Mavericks position battle heading into training camp: 2. Starting forward

The Mavs are going to start Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. They are the only two locked-in no-brainer starters, though. Coach Rick Carlisle preferred to start KP at the four next to another big man. Does Maxi Kleber, Dwight Powell, or Willie Cauley-Stein take one of the roles?

Dallas has a massive question on the wing. They have Tim Hardaway Jr., Reggie Bullock, and Dorian Finney-Smith vying for the two spots. Doe-Doe and Bullock started 124 of their 125 combined games played last season. Hardaway Jr. was the Mavericks’ sixth man for the majority of the season before returning to the starting five in the playoffs.

Does Kidd want THJ’s scoring and shot-making coming off the bench to dominate second units or does he see him as a locked-in starter? If Hardaway Jr. starts does the Hall of Fame point guard prefer Finney-Smith or Bullock at the three? Kidd could opt for his best defensive starting five with Hardaway Jr. and Brunson giving Dallas plenty of scoring in their second unit.

Coach Jason Kidd could start Tim Hardaway Jr., Reggie Bullock, and Dorian Finney-Smith, but it would mean playing Porzingis at the five full-time.
