Dallas Mavericks cannot miss game: 5. Mavs at Hawks season opener

The Mavericks take on the Hawks in Atlanta as their opener on the first Thursday TNT slate of the season. Oct. 21 will be Luka Doncic’s first chance of the year to shine on the national TV stage.

This matchup has plenty of heat going back to the 2018 draft-night trade. The Mavs moved up from fifth to third overall to secure the rights to Doncic. Dallas saw him as a potential superstar, but nobody expected him to become one so quickly. The trade was a homerun for the Mavericks, and it is the rare deal that works out well for both sides.

The Hawks selected Trae Young at fifth overall and took Cam Reddish with the Mavs 2019 first-round pick. Young is a superstar that is fresh off leading Atlanta to the Eastern Conference Finals. The Hawks have no regrets about the trade that will forever link Doncic and Young.

The two young superstars will be going at each other in this opening week TNT broadcast. Expect monster nights from both as the Hawks attempt to defeat the Dallas Mavericks for the first time since Feb. 22, 2020. Fans will not want to miss the fireworks.
