Dallas Mavericks lineup Jason Kidd has to try: 4. Size matters
The Mavs play extremely well with Maxi Kleber and Kristaps Porzingis sharing the frontcourt as they produced an 8.1 net rating over 524 minutes last season. Coach Kidd needs to find what combination works best around them for when the opposition plays two traditional big men this season.
PG: Luka Doncic
SG: Tim Hardaway Jr.
SF: Reggie Bullock
PF: Maxi Kleber
C: Kristaps Porzingis
Bullock, Hardaway Jr., Dorian Finney-Smith, and Sterling Brown are all interchangeable in this unit. Kidd has the freedom to ride a hot hand or prey on specific defensive matchups he prefers.
Hardaway Jr. gets the nod because he offers some shot creation and off-the-dribble scoring with his floor spacing ability. Fans know this lineup performs well with Doe-Doe, so Bullock seemed like a seamless fit to switch things up. Kidd could go Bullock and Finney-Smith here if he wants to maximize the Mavericks’ defense.
How much Kristaps Porzingis plays the five is one of the many interesting storylines to follow this season. Kidd plans to bring out the best version of the Unicorn and that could mean plenty of minutes at center. Will KP embrace the role? If he does, how will his body hold up guarding larger players every night? It is a situation to monitor during training camp.
The Dallas Mavericks have depth this season, and they plan on using it to their advantage.
