Does Bojan Bogdanovic make the Dallas Mavericks a title contender?
Bogdanovic is an outstanding role player that would make nearly every contending team better, but how much? The veteran has won two playoff series in his career, and the Jazz failed to reach the conference finals, despite having the best regular season record in the NBA in 2021. Bogdanovic improves a roster, but he is not a game-changer.
The 33-year-old is on a one-year deal. Does he instantly make the Mavericks a title contender? No, and it is not particularly close. The 6’7 forward would give them another talented role player that fits seamlessly around Luka Doncic, but he does not raise their ceiling.
The Dallas Mavericks should not trade for Bojan Bogdanovic. They will have the opportunity to acquire a second All-Star after their 2023 first-round pick conveys to the Knicks next summer. Dallas can trade four unprotected picks and three swaps if necessary to make the deal. Jumping into title contention is the only way the front office can justify throwing away that opportunity.
Expect the Utah Jazz to trade Bojan Bogdanovic, Mike Conley, Malik Beasley, and Jordan Clarkson before the trade deadline as they attempt to head into a total rebuild. The Mavs likely won’t capitalize, but they have the chance.
Expect Nico Harrison and the Dallas Mavericks front office to keep tabs on every team as they search for ways to improve their roster. Can they find an impactful role player without giving up a first-round pick? Stay tuned to find out.
