2022 NBA Draft mock #7: San Antonio Spurs: Caleb Houstan
Houstan was a top ten prospect coming out of Montverde Academy, but his stock jumped up at the FIBA Under-19 World Cup as he helped Canada win a bronze medal. He was his country’s leading score, and the teenager proved that he can be effective playing off the ball.
Houstan struggled from 3-point range at the Under-19 World Cup, but he has strong mechanics and shoots with confidence. His jumper is something to watch this season. Will he consistently knock down threes for the University of Michigan, and can he stretch it out to NBA range?
Houstan can handle the ball, and he makes wise decisions. The 18-year-old is not a lead ball-handler, but he could grow into a secondary creator with a low turnover rate.
Scouts are excited about Houstan’s defensive potential. He competes hard on that end of the floor and is 6’8 with an NBA-ready body. Houstan should be the switchable wing that every team wants in the modern NBA.
The Spurs have been hunting wings in recent drafts as they attempt to rebuild. Caleb Houstan has immense potential and a high floor. He should stick in the league, plus features All-Star upside, making the young talent a player the Spurs would be ecstatic to add to their roster.
