2022 NBA Draft mock #28: Miami Heat: Terrence Shannon Jr.
Shannon Jr. is about to begin his third season at Texas Tech. The 6’6 wing had his name in the 2021 NBA Draft and drew some buzz as a second-round pick before deciding to go back to school. He had a strong sophomore season where he averaged 12.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 26.7 minutes per game.
The 21-year-old is a plus defender that can guard on or off the ball. He has the size and versatility to defend multiple positions. NBA teams will be excited about his defense and what they can do with him on the floor.
Shannon’s jumper has been inconsistent during his first two NCAA seasons, but he hit 35.7 percent of his 84 3-point attempts last season. Can he consistently knock them down at that clip? If the 21-year-old takes another step forward and shoots 38 percent from 3-point range, he could easily be a top 20 selection in the 2022 NBA Draft.
The Miami Heat want defense and toughness on their roster. Terrence Shannon Jr. profiles as one of the best perimeter defenders in this class, and he could blossom into the 3-and-D wing every team covets. The Heat take a chance on him with the belief they can help him develop.
