2022 NBA Draft mock #24: Houston Rockets (via Nets): Daimion Collins
The Rockets get the two most favorable of their pick, the Heat’s and the Nets’ with Miami taking the least favorable. This is Houston’s second selection in this draft after they took Jabari Smith Jr. fourth overall.
Expect the Rockets to shoot for upside with this selection as they are still in the early stages of a massive rebuild, and Collins fits that mold as an impressive athlete. The 19-year-old is 6’10 and can jump out of the gym, but his game is work-in-progress, especially on the offensive end of the floor.
He will be used as a lob threat and shot-blocker during his freshman season at Kentucky, but it will be interesting to see if Collins flashes other skills. The 6’10 forward is an impressive athlete, which is likely enough to make him a first-round selection. He will need to show more if he wants to be taken in the lottery.
The Houston Rockets are multiple seasons away from contending for a playoff spot, so they take a massive swing by drafting Daimion Collins. The 19-year-old could hit and be an impact starter for the next decade-plus, or he could be out of the league following his rookie contract. Whatever team drafts him will be confident they can help him reach his potential, but making it a reality is another thing.
