2022 NBA Draft mock #23: Oklahoma City Thunder (via Suns): Kennedy Chandler
The Thunder grab the Suns first-round pick if it falls outside the top 12, and Phoenix has already kissed it goodbye after playing in the NBA Finals last season. They plan on being back in the playoffs and making another deep run.
Oklahoma City is still in the early stages of a total rebuild. They have amassed a ton of draft picks and will be looking to shoot for upside every time they select. Can GM Sam Presti tank his way to the top? It is going to be fascinating to watch it all unfold.
Chandler is one of the top pure point guards in this draft. He has outstanding vision and is more than capable of handling the ball, running an offense, and making plays. The 19-year-old has a quick first step and is a nightmare to defend in transition.
The biggest drawback is his size. The freshman guard is listed by the University of Tennessee at 6’0 and 171 pounds, which limits his versatility. Chandler’s defense is something to monitor this season, and his size could drop his draft stock come June. The teenager needs to have a strong season if he wants to play his way into being a lottery selection.
