2022 NBA Draft mock #22: Denver Nuggets: Keegan Murray
Murray is back for his second season at the University of Iowa. The 6’8 forward has an NBA-ready body and should be in line for a much larger offensive role after three important scorers for the Hawkeyes graduated last year. Can he showcase additional skills with the increased opportunity?
As a freshman, he averaged 7.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in 18.0 minutes per game in a reserve role. Murray’s ability to block shots as a weak-side rim protector was impressive and helped him earn All-Freshman Big Ten honors, but his offensive game remains a work in progress.
The 21-year-old needs to keep improving his jumper. He hit just 16 of his 54 3-point attempts last season, but the stroke looks solid. Scouts are hopeful his percentage improves this season with some added confidence.
The Denver Nuggets have a strong frontcourt, but adding Keegan Murray gives them another defensive option to use when they are struggling to get stops. The Hawkeyes forward competes hard and could be a solid rotation player in the NBA for the next decade-plus.
Any team would love to draft that in the late first round, and Murray could take a significant step this season in an increased role too. He is someone to keep an eye on moving forward.
