2022 NBA Draft mock #17: Dallas Mavericks: TyTy Washington
The Mavs desperately need an influx of talent on a roster that is virtually unchanged since making the Kristaps Porzingis trade back in 2019. Their lack of shot creation behind superstar Luka Doncic was on full display in their 2021 first-round playoff loss to the LA Clippers, and this pick could be the place to fill that hole.
Washington is an outstanding shooter that would be able to play on or off the ball in Dallas. He already displays NBA range, and the 18-year-old should only continue to improve. The 6’3 guard is also a strong passer and playmaker that would make him capable of being a lead guard in the NBA.
Taking a Kentucky guard has been a fantastic idea in recent drafts. Their stock often gets depressed because they do not have the most eye-popping numbers, but fans have seen many of them take a leap in the NBA. TyTy Washington will look to be the next player in that long list of Wildcats thriving at the next level.
The Mavs could look to trade this pick on draft night for a more established player, but if new general manager and president of basketball operations Nico Harrison decides to keep it, expect Dallas to be in the market for another creator. They would be jumping for joy if Washington slipped to them in the 2022 NBA Draft.
